In this one year course students will study crime through various academic disciplines. Psychological, physiological and biological explanations of crime are explored as well as the socio-cultural and politico-economic approaches. The penal system in the UK and its constituent parts, such as the court system, penal institutions, social work and juvenile justice, is also studied. Knowledge gained is then applied to a particular crime problem. The course is assessed continually throughout the year and a final project of 4000 words. This is a double credit Higher National unit. Candidates must have a Higher in Psychology and/or Sociology. (2008) |
