Responsibilities of the College
Planning
1. Participate in joint planning and timetabling arrangements with partner schools and local authority
2. Gain approval for all programmes
3. Consult the local authority and the schools involved if a course is in danger of cancellation
4. Liaise with representatives from the local authority and Secondary Schools to negotiate provision, scheduling, and any other relevant matter
5. Schedule provision in negotiation with schools/local authority and aim to minimise unsupervised time in college where feasible
Course Delivery and Quality
6. Utilise appropriate resources and tutoring skills to meet the needs of the pupils
7. Provide qualified and disclosed staff to deliver the programmes, and, for courses delivered in college, ensure adequate staff cover in the event of illness or redeployment of staff members
8. Ensure staff who teach schools pupils will possess or be working towards an appropriate teaching qualification, or have other means to demonstrate that they can teach to the requisite standard
9. Implement appropriate selection procedures in conjunction with the schools
10. Satisfy the criteria for regular inspection regimes, e.g.: HMle, SQA, Scottish Quality Management System
11. Ensure that pupils representatives have a voice in programme review procedures
Guidance & Support
12. Provide a full induction programme and ensure pupils attending college sign the Stevenson College Edinburgh Agreement and the information and Communication technology (ICT) Code of Conduct
13. Negotiate with school appropriate access to support and guidance available to college students
14. Provide a mid-year report on the progress of individual pupils and convey any issues of concern regarding achievement, behaviour, attendance and discipline
15. Liaise with the school/local authority if a pupil is to be returned to school
16. Provide an assurance that information on pupils will only be passed to the nominated school/local authority member of staff
Information and Administration
17. Provide regular and timely reports on attendance
18. Provide relevant information and documents for distribution to schools, parents and potential students on specific courses and college provision
19. Provide induction briefing and welcome pack to school staff coming into college such as learning assistants
20. Comply with health & safety requirements and apply suitable risk assessment procedures
21. Provide one point of contact in college for guidance, behaviour and attendance issues
22. Deliver/offer briefing and development sessions to school / guidance staff on college life, provision and progression opportunities
